Preventive Dentistry
Preventive dentistry is the practice of caring for your teeth to keep them healthy. This helps to avoid cavities, gum disease, enamel wear, and much more problems.
There are many forms of preventive dentistry, such as daily brushing and dental cleanings. To maintain optimal oral health, the American Dental Association (ADA) recommends visits to the dentist at regular intervals determined by a dentist. These practices are designed to ensure that teeth are clean, strong, and white. Children should be taught proper oral hygiene at an early age.
You should see a dentist atleast once per year for an exam to check for any problems in the teeth or gums. If you’re at a high risk for dental problems, you’ll likely benefit from more frequent dental visits. If you’re at a low risk for dental problems, you may see the same benefits from only one cleaning per year. Dental cleanings and exams allow dentists to identify problems and take care of them right away.
Benefit from Preventive Dentistry?
Everyone can benefit from preventive dentistry. Children, in particular, benefit because it allows their newly developing adult teeth to come in strong and healthy. Fissure sealants and fluoride treatments help prevent decay in your children’s teeth. If you’re an aging adult, you can benefit from preventive dentistry because it helps you to keep your real teeth.
Oral health is connected to the health of your body as a whole. This is because the mouth is a breeding ground for harmful bacteria. Maintaining a clean mouth benefits your overall health. Let us see some of the Treatments that comes under Preventive Dentistry;
Scaling & Polishing
Preventive Dentistry in Bahrain!
Gum disease is often caused by a build up of plaque bacteria, the best way to remove this is by brushing your teeth daily. But no matter how well you clean your teeth there will always be hard to reach areas that are tricky to keep clean. In these areas, plaque bacteria can accumulate and may eventually mineralise to form a tough, crusty deposit called calculus or tartar, which is impossible to remove by brushing alone. If not removed, more plaque can build up around the tooth and potentially under the gum line, leading to the progression of gum disease. To reduce the risk of gum disease or to stop it from becoming more serious, your dentist may recommend that you have a professional clean, called a scale and polish, to get your teeth properly clean.
Visit us at Dr Sadiq Sharaf Dental Center & we can advise you how often you should have a scale and polish. It’s important to remember that professional cleaning is an addition to a good daily oral health routine, and should never replace with brusing your teeth twice daily. Fissure Sealant
Preventive Dentistry in Bahrain!
Fissure sealants are plastic coatings that are painted on to the grooves of the back teeth. The sealant forms a protective layer that keeps food and bacteria from getting stuck in the tiny grooves in the teeth and causing decay. Resin-based fissure sealants should be applied to the permanent molars of all children as early after the eruption of teeth
The process of applying Fissure Sealant is usually quick and easy which takes only few minutes of time per tooth. at first, The tooth is thoroughly cleaned, then the tooth is prepared with some special solution and dried, finally the sealant is applied and allowed to set hard by shining a blue light onto it.
How long does fissure sealant last? Fissure Sealant usually last for many years, but needs to be checked regularly to make sure that the seal is intact. It can wear over time, and sometimes needs to be added to or replaced to be sure that no decay can start underneath it.
Fluoride Application
Preventive Dentistry in Bahrain!
Fluoride is a natural mineral that builds strong teeth and prevents cavities. It’s been an essential oral health treatment for decades. Fluoride supports healthy tooth enamel and fights the bacteria that harm teeth and gums. Tooth enamel is the outer protective layer of each tooth.Fluoride is especially helpful if you’re at high risk of developing dental caries, or cavities.
Our dentists provide professional fluoride treatments in the form of a highly concentrated rinse, foam, gel, or varnish. The treatment may be applied with a swab, brush, tray, or mouthwash. These treatments have much more fluoride than what’s in your water or toothpaste. They only take a few minutes to apply. You may be asked to avoid eating or drinking for 30 minutes after the treatment so the fluoride can fully absorb. Always give your dentist your full health history so they can choose the right treatments for you.
Benefits of Fluoride Application, Fluoride works by restoring minerals to tooth surfaces where bacteria may have eroded the enamel. It can also inhibit the growth of harmful oral bacteria and further prevent cavities. Fluoride benefits both children and adults. The earlier children are exposed to fluoride, the less likely they are to develop cavities. A large study found that children and adolescents who received fluoride treatments for one year were 43 percent less likely to have tooth decay and cavities. visit our dentists to know more details about Fluoride Application.
